Holy Cow!
Has it really been that long since I posted? Man, what a slacker!
Anyway, I'm on vacation right now and having a blast in beautiful Arkansas. No, I'm not visiting anybody here. Just never been, so we (Mer and I) thought we'd try it out. We're in Hot Springs. Maybe I'll snap off a few pics today and post them later.
Anyway, I do have a quick ripple to relate...
A couple weeks ago, I was attending the Association of Former Students Leadership Council Meeting. Basically, an opportunity for active leadership of the ASF's outreach (class agents, club officers, etc) to come together and share experience and go over the operations of the ASF.
While I was there, I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Harrison, who's the class agent for 1971. He actually works on campus in the Corps of Cadets office and has since his retirement from the Army in the mid-90's.
Well, when I introduced myself, I said, "Howdy, I'm Daniel Hedrick, class of '93" as is customary. And he got an interesting look on his face...
"Are you any relation to Carroll Hedrick?" he asked.
My parents have lived in College Station since about '91 and my dad works very closely with the public and is also very active in several local organizations, so I figured that Jim had met him at Copy Corner.
I tried to make a joke... "Well, if you're referring to the Carroll Hedrick over at Copy Corner, we've been known to hang out together..."
Jim replied, "No, that can't be the same one. I graduated high school with this Carroll in 1967."
GUH!
It turns out that Jim and my dad grew up together, going to the same primary, junior high, and high school in west texas. They hadn't seen each other since graduation, back in 1967.
They've been living in the same city for at least 10 years and worked, literally, blocks from each other.
Well, Jim paid a visit to my pop the Monday after the conference, and they instantly recognized one another. Time to catch up, I'd say.
Pretty cool, isn't it?
