Change is good.
I like change. I found $0.55 cents in my pocket this evening.
Hah! Anyway, there has been no update lately and that's probably mostly due to not having anything noteworthy to talk about. Christmas is rapidly approaching, and we'll be heading to visit my family tomorrow. It's a whirlwind visit though, as we'll be coming back home on Saturday so that Santa can visit the kids in their own home.
I did take the new pistola to the range a couple weeks ago. Also, I'm taking Monday and Tuesday off, so maybe more range time is in order. The pistol fired well, but is not particularly accurate. Most shots stayed within center-mass at 7 yards, but there were a few wild shots as well. Mostly it fires low. And of course, I'm not sure how much of that was new gun and how much was a lack of time at the range on my part. There were also a few FTFs -- but only when jacking the first round into the breach after releasing the slide. And it only did that when the magazine was loaded with 6 rounds (they're small mags). Load 5 in the mag and that first cartridge goes in fine. No FTEs in about 43 rounds fired.
The one annoying thing that it did do is that it would eject the hot, spent brass directly into my face. I had read a range report article that this was a possibility and I've also read that replacing the factory recoil spring will fix the issue. A new spring is only about 7 bucks, so next time I'm at the range, I'll have the smith take care of that for me.
Of course, all this trouble was with a pistol that was fresh outta the box. I hadn't cleaned it or polished it or done anything to it other than look through the barrel to make sure it was clear of obstruction prior to loading and firing that first time. I've since given it a good scrubbing and cleaned all the residual packing grease and whatnot from it and also oiled the action and polished the feed ramp. We'll see if all this home-smithing will turn my lump of coal into a diamond... I can't complain -- $250 for a .45 caliber pistol is a great price (yes, that's New In Box).
